Intentional, Yet Flexible

"The slacker craves, yet has nothing,
but the diligent is fully satisfied." Proverbs 13:4

Washing As moms, we often find ourselves very literally being on call 24/7. I do not say that in a begrudging, resentful manner. It is a position of great privilege and carries great responsibility. We are like the firefighter who is on duty for forty-eight hours straight and then has four days off - except we don’t get the four days off! We never clock out. We may have a well-thought-through and written-out routine in which we can accomplish all of the laundry, cleaning, cooking, shopping, and child-care responsibilities with flare after we have had a shower, a meaningful quiet time, and run two miles. BUT we cannot control unplanned guests at the door, the four year old waking the baby from his nap, the flu, broken washing machines, spilled paint, or someone having to work late.

Do you often feel sabotaged in your desire to spend time with the Lord? Plans are good, but a cheerful, flexible heart is better. We can be intentional without being in control. We may never accomplish what we set out to do in the morning, but if our heart is tender to the Lord, we will accomplish what He has in mind for us to do - and we will build our relationship with him along the way.

There is a difference between being lazy and being intentional (diligent), yet flexible. Can you see the difference? What would your day look like if you kept that in mind?
