Get Up and Go to Egypt!

 13When they had gone, an
angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said,
"take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I
tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." 14So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15where
he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord
had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son." (Matthew 2)

So far, every instance of the angels' appearances in the Christmas story has been "Don't be afraid! I have good news!" Not this one. This one is a warning from God. We see here another role of the ministering spirits.

Psalm 91:

 9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
       even the LORD, who is my refuge-
 10 then no harm will befall you,
       no disaster will come near your tent.
 11 For he will command his angels concerning you
       to guard you in all your ways;
 12 they will lift you up in their hands,
       so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Something to think about today...how sensitive are you to the Lord's warnings? When you toss and turn at night, do you automatically pray to go back to sleep or do you think to ask God if he wants you up for a reason?

With the kids: Our kids are often so much more sensitive to spiritual danger than we are. Sometimes as a mom I struggle to discern what kind of fear it is my child is dealing with. Do they just need some encouragement to overcome their fear? or do they need to be protected and be removed from a situation? I have to ask the Lord for wisdom. We often become so desensitized about the spiritual warfare around us, that our children notice things before we do. You know, its not always a bad thing to listen to your kids. :)
