Whatever is Right

"Finally, brothers,....whatever is right....think about such things." Philippians 4:8

Right: righteous, upright, just, innocent, honest

What does it mean to value what is right?

I was thinking tonight about the how God has justified us - how he has made us righteous. We can't do it, but He has done it for us, through the blood of Jesus.

Do we value our salvation? Do we value the fact that we've been justified? Sometimes I do, but sometimes I take it for granted. I forget its value. I treat it as cheap. What about you?

One of the ways I think it is easy to take for granted what God has done for us is by allowing unconfessed sin towards God and others pile up in our heart. Nothing feels better than a clear conscience. If God has washed our slates clean, if he has purified us....why dirty it back up?

With the Kids:

Kids feel better when their conscience is clear too!  I have one little kiddo that becomes sullen and withdrawn when he is hiding something. Patience and prayer draws out that confession, and my happy child returns. I am continuously praying for God's wisdom to know when I should trust my child and not hound them vs. wisely guiding them to confess their sin. Gentle pressure on our little ones to do the right thing may be uncomfortable for us and them, but is necessary for their long-term peace, happiness, and relationships.

Let's Memorize!!

This verse is a great one to memorize...and adding one word a day makes it a cinch to do as we go. In fact, most pre-schoolers can learn this verse. Work on it each day together, adding one word a day. If they are old enough, talk about the word meanings with them.
