"Finally, brethren...whatever is pure....think on these things." Philippians 4:8
Pure: innocent, free from sin, unadulterated by evil (of matters of thought), involving nothing suggestive, often referring to sexual matters
I John 3:3 says "Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure," suggesting that we have some responsibility in this.
How do we purify ourselves? 1 Peter 1:22 gives us a clue. "Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart."
We had some good discussion around our dinner table tonight about purity. I was asking the kids how keeping pure affects what we watch on t.v. or the kind of electronic games they play, etc. One of my kids asked if we really had to avoid certain shows, etc, if they weren't pure and innocent.
"Shouldn't we?" I asked.
"Really, mom. Are we going to not watch anything that has stuff in it."
"What should we do?" I re-questioned.
"Obey God." he said.
Ding! Ding! Ding! You got it! Yes, really, we should obey God and stay pure. End of story.
With the kids: Let your little ones wear white today - or throw on an over-sized white t-shirt over their clothes. Challenge them to keep their white clothes clean for the day and talk about the challenges of staying pure.
