"...and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19b
Fishers of men implies that the disciples, who were mostly fishermen by trade, would begin to go after people with Jesus, instead of going after fish. So, we can be fishers of men, too!
- What is it that you will become when you follow Jesus?
- Is that something you've always been, or does it imply a change?
- Will you make yourself a fisher of men?
- Who will make you a fisher of men?
- What is your job, then?
- Do your current fishing skills show that you are following Jesus?
- Someone who is following Jesus, cannot help but be changed. If there is no change, then how well are you following?
Personally, I really had to mull over this last night. At this point in life, it is difficult to participate in a whole lot of fishing activities. I mainly am able to go after my children....who need to be caught. But what does my heart show? Does my heart show that my main concern if for those who aren't following Jesus like I am? Sadly, most of the time, the truthful answer would be "no."
What about you?
