Matthew 4:19a

If you haven't yet seen the video post below, please try to watch that. It is five minutes long.

"Come, follow me," Jesus said..."

Matthew 4:19 contains a great, very simple, definition of discipleship. We're only going to tear apart the first part today.  Jesus said, very simply, "Follow me."

I was thinking today about what follow means to me. I think of Twitter. Who is following me? Who am I following? Why do I follow them? Because I want to keep track of what they are doing. I want to watch them.

So what does it mean to follow Jesus? I do think that it means to keep track of what He's doing- to watch Him. But this kind of following goes beyond twitter. It is the kind of following that means you go beyond watching...you want to imitate. You want to do what He does...be like Him.

I think about my kids and how they pick up my quirky little habits, mostly because they are just around me so much...but partly because they take their cue for how to behave by watching me and having a sense of "that is the way I should do it, because it is the way mom/dad does it."

Another thing it implies to follow Him? We are not leading.Think of how ridiculous it would be, if instead, we tried to imitate our kids! That's about how silly it would be to reverse the roles with Christ.

For you, what is the most challenging part of following Him?
