Wake Up - by Sharise Piquard

Isaiah 60:1 "Arise, shine, for your light has come,

and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.

This week I read Isaiah 60 and haven’t been able to get it out of my mind. “Arise, shine…” I don’t know about you, but when I get up in the morning, I have a hard time arising, much less SHINING! I wish I were one of those moms who just popped out of bed with a smile on my face, ready to conquer the world! But most mornings I find myself fantasizing of being back in my warm, soft sheets. I am so grateful that the Bible has much encouragement when it comes to this. The Lord longs for us to live our days to the glory of Him! Not only physically, but He also wants us to be spiritually awake and alive. In the Message version of the Bible, Romans 13 says, “But make sure that you don't get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can't afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don't loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!”

Wow, that verse is like coffee from God, a wake up call for my life!

However, this is not just for us moms. It is for our children too! We can help our kids start their days off by telling of His glory from the minute they wake up! Does anyone remember the song, “Rise and Shine (Arky, Arky)” from Sunday school? Some mornings I still sing it to myself and my daughter and remember Noah who obeyed God. Here is a clip of some children singing this song. I can’t help but smile when I see that child-like faith and hear them shout, “Give God the glory glory, children of the Lord!”
