"IF I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God's love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal."And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God's love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody).
"Even if I dole out all that I have [to the poor in providing] food, and if I surrender my body to be burned or in order that I may glory, but have not love (God's love in me), I gain nothing." I Corinthians 13:1-3 (Amplified Bible)
I don't know about you, but it is so easy for me to get focused on the things I do for Bill, and convince myself that it is showing love to him.
In reality, I can cook a five course meal, get the taxes done, catch up the laundry, wash the dog, and have the kids in bed when he gets home...so I can give him a foot rub in peace; but if I don't do it with love, well, ya...can you hear me clanging?
Ever been there?
So as this weekend comes up, and you may be tempted to simply make sure the house is clean and you've made cute little cupcakes and gotten a sitter and ....and....and.... try to think through the actual ways he needs your love. What has God shown you this week? How can you make this Valentines Day better than any other he's ever had?
